The Legacy of Mitch Misiasz
It is with regret that I inform you that we lost a gregarious, helpful, and committed partner in this work Monday night. ISK Housing team member Mitch Misiasz passed Monday July 21, 2024. He grew up in Kalamazoo and worked in the ISK housing department for several years in a variety of roles. Most recently he had taken responsibility for overseeing two of their large housing grants that were designed to help those we serve obtain and maintain housing. For the last two years Mitch worked closely with the CoC team in his roles at ISK and was also instrumental in the planning for the Point in Time Count. His thoughtful and human approach to working alongside community was instrumental in the process. He was very respectful of others and had a great loud laugh.
Mitch was loved by his ISK family and many others in the community he worked alongside or touched through his outreach. We will always hold memory of him as one of the many heroes with lived experience as a person who cared deeply for people with behavioral health disabilities, particularly those who are houseless. As we mourn the loss of Mitch, I am sure he would want all of us to remember to care for each other and the people we serve, and not take anything in our lives for granted.
We honor the work of Mitch and will hold his memory close. For any work Mitch may have been assisting anyone on, the main housing line at ISK can be contacted at 269-364-6945.
