UW-RentAble FIN

The RentAble program is designed to provide one time assistance up to $2000 per household to help individuals and families overcome barriers to sustain or obtain housing. Funds can be used for application fees, security deposits, offset rent increases, mortgage payments, owed utility costs, etc. This opportunity is available to individuals and families that live in Kalamazoo County.

The RentAble program is now Accepting Applications!

Please review the eligibility requirements and read the frequently asked questions before applying.  

There will be NO walk-in hours Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 8 to May 7. No phone calls will be taken during this time. The RentAble team is processing all applications that were received by March 29.

If you call the office during this time, you will be directed to voicemail.

Please allow 45-60 days for applications to be processed.  We are experiencing an uptick of applications and are processing applications in the order received. Calls requesting a general status update will not be returned. 

If you are inquiring about a payment that was issued send an email to RentAble@uwscmi.org, in the subject line put Payment inquiry (applicant name).

Applications can be filed out in the following ways:

  • Online using the form below.
  • In person at the UWSCMI office (709 S Westnedge Kalamazoo – applications are in a drop box).
  • By calling the United Way of South Central Michigan office at 269-343-2524, ext. 125 (M-F 9 a.m.-4 p.m.). Please include in the message that you are requesting help completing an application. Calls will be returned within 2 business days.

Eligibility requirements (all 3 must be met):

  1. Must live in Kalamazoo County or be looking for assistance to move to Kalamazoo County.
  2. Income must between 50-120% of the Area Median Income
    • 1 Person $32,100 - $65,940
    • 2 Persons $36,700 - $75,340
    • 3 Persons $41,300 - $84,830
    • 4 Persons $45,850 - $94,210
    • 5 Persons $49,550 - $101,870
    • 6 Persons $53,200 - $109,550
    • 7 Persons $56,900 - $116,900
    • 8 Persons $60,550 - $124,410
  3. Must be experiencing one of more barriers in securing/maintaining housing
    • a prior eviction or adverse action
    • a previous incarceration or arrest record
    • nontraditional sources of income (portion of income is from government assistance or other sources
    • poor credit history or prior bankruptcy
    • experienced domestic violence/human trafficking
